Good Cholesterol Levels

To gain good cholesterol levels, we have to work positively to lower the level of the LDL or bad cholesterol. This helps to reduce chances of cardio complications.

Cholesterol levels are very closely associated with heart diseases and more people in the world have been empowered to take action and control the level of fat in their blood. Controlled cholesterol is also important in the body as it helps in controlling hormones and neural functions.

Cholesterol falls into two main categories:-

Bad cholesterol which is commonly referred to as LDL

The good cholesterol that is commonly termed to as HDL

The HDL cholesterol helps to ensure that the LDL does not affect blood flow in the arteries. LDL cholesterol on the contrary causes the buildup of fats in arteries. The liver is a major producer of cholesterol using the body’s natural capability.

The bad cholesterol is oxidized by macrophages cells. These cells are filled with fat which build up in the arteries and in adverse situations can even end up blocking the passages. Some of the medical experts argue that cholesterol is much harmful if at all is oxidized.

The following are some of the strategies that you can adopt in order to reduce on LDL cholesterol and increase the level of HDL cholesterol.

  • Adopt a diet that is antioxidant rich
  • Limit your intake of the manufactured or processed fats
  • Eat foods containing monounsaturated fat acids (e.g. almonds, avocados, olive oil etc.)

Foods that will help you to lower the LDL cholesterol and subsequently raise the good cholesterol are:-

§ Garlic: according to a recent study conducted in the Bastyr college by ingesting garlic acid daily you are likely to significantly raise your good cholesterol level.

§ Eating raw onions : these are said to raise HDL in most people.

§ Oily fish : helps to lower the :LDL level and also increases the HDL cholesterol levels.

§ Olive oil : this works in the same effect as the raw onions

§ Grape fruits : these are very helpful when you want to increase your HDL levels.

§ Apples : these contain pectin substance which is known to regulate the two types of cholesterol levels.

§ Wine or beer and consumption of legumes: these also help in the regulation of both cholesterol levels.

In adoption of these diets for both of the LDL and HDL cholesterol levels, it is very important to work together with your doctor and therapist to make sure that you are working everything as required.
